Hey there! I'm Aldrick, and this blog is my little experiment in owning everything I publish. No WordPress, no Medium, no Substack—just me, my home lab, and a whole lot of content I'm excited to share.

I built this site as a pilot project for my homelab. Originally, I planned to use it to host testnet blockchain nodes, but then I stumbled upon Ghost—an open-source publishing platform that runs beautifully in Docker containers. One thing led to another, and here we are!

So... What Happened to the Old aldrickb.com? 🤔

Good question! My previous website was, let's say, ambitious. I kept buying sleek designs from marketplaces because, honestly? Designing UIs isn't my strong suit. I can code circles around most problems, but making things look pretty? That's a whole different beast.

The problem was those marketplace themes. Sure, they looked great—but the code behind them? Messy. Outdated dependencies. Impossible to customize. I'd spend hours fighting with it just to add simple features. Eventually, my sites would collect dust because maintaining them was a nightmare.

Enter Ghost. With this new setup, I can:

  • Upload GIFs without touching code 🖼️
  • Preview everything locally
  • Push to GitHub and deploy to Vercel with one click
  • Actually write instead of wrestling with themes

Now I have a site I can actually maintain. No more dusty URLs. Time to put myself out there as a developer! 💪
