About this site
Welcome to my independent blog site! I'm Aldrick, and I created this blog as a pilot project for my home lab. I'm planning to write all my life progress and projects I had here.
What happened to my old aldrickb.com website?
It all started when I was checking out things I can self-hosting using my own home lab. And I stumbled upon Ghost, an independent technology for modern publishing. It is open-source and can be run quickly using Docker containers. I said to myself, why not? My home lab is still empty waiting for the testnet blockchain nodes to be completed. I set it up in my home lab (or my data center) with just a minimal hardware allocation. And then I discovered that this is a very goooodddd tech that I can publish my own content. I can publish so much without much coding!
Just look at this, I can simply upload GIFs to my post without much coding, run the code locally to verify, commit to GitHub if I'm done, and finally initiate a deployment to Vercel. It only takes me one step and I'm in love.
Don't you love coding? Why don't you just stick with bare metal coding to develop your website?
To be honest, designing graphics or a new UI design is not my strong point. Yes, I can work around with existing design just like how I do it during work. That's why all my previous aldrickb.com website designs were purchased from a marketplace. The design was good but most of the time the code was hard to work with or the dependencies were just too old to work with the things I wanted to add. That's why my website is always collecting dust. Now my new objective is to keep my aldrickb.com website up to date. I want to be known as a software developer too! From now on, I am planning to use this platform as my front-facing website to aldrickb.com. For other projects, I will keep the old-fashioned bare metal coding to suit the needs.
